Network lines ran from each POS install point to your telecommunications area. |
This area could be your front counter, a network closet or in your office. It is the area where your internet comes in from your ISP . Devices cannot share a network line, dedicated lines are required |

All network lines need to be punched down or terminated at each end. |
At the POS install points this means a jack with face plate. At the telecommunications area this means a punched down to a network patch panel that can accommodate all network lines |

Internet wiring |
Internet service must be provided to the telecommunications area within 24” from the network patch panel or POS router. |

INTERNET SERVICE REQUIREMENTS |

Hardwired internet service is required. Consumer Cellular Broadband service is not compatible. |
|
|
Download speed of 5 MBPS and upload of 2 MBPS is required. |
|
|
Internet service must be installed and operational before POS installation. |
|
|
Internet service must be provided to the telecommunications area within 24” from the network patch panel or POS router. |
|
A static IP address is NOT required. |

POS Terminal/Workstation Outlets |
Each POS install point including stations/receipt printers require two (2) dedicated 15AMP 110Volt power outlets. |

Prep Printers Outlets |
Each kitchen/bar prep printer requires one (1) dedicated 15AMP 110Volt power outlet. |
|
Kitchen Display Units (Kitchen Video) Outlets |
Each kitchen video unit requires one (1) dedicated 15AMP 110Volt power outlets. |

Network Equipment Outlets |
Four (4) dedicated power outlets are required in the telecommunications area for the POS network devices. |
EQUIPMENT PLACEMENT |

POS Terminal/Workstation Placement |
The countertop area where the station, receipt printer and other pos devices reside must be finalized with 1.25” holes drilled in countertops and shelving to allow access to power and low voltage. |
|
WiFi Access Points |
Access points must be placed to provide full coverage in all areas where wifi devices will be used. A Focus technician can perform a site survey to recommend placement areas for full coverage. Access points MUST be on the same network as the other POS devices. |

Power & Low Voltage Placement |
Power & Low Voltage should be located within 24” from a POS install point. Power and low voltage lines should be 14” or closer to each other. |

Prep Printer Placement |
Finalized countertops and shelving must be in place near power and low voltage where the prep printer will be located. Holes must be drilled to allow access from the prep printer to power and low voltage. Power & Low Voltage should be located within 24” from a POS install point. Power and low voltage lines should be 14” or closer to each other. |

Kitchen Display Unit (Kitchen VIdeo) Placement |
Kitchen video units being wall or ceiling mounted will need to be placed near power and low voltage. Appropriate mounting brackets will be required Equipment must be placed so that employees can reach the top of the screen |
GLOSSARY |

POS Install Point |
The location of a piece of POS equipment. This includes POS Terminals/Workstations, bar prep printers, kitchen prep printers, expo printers, kitchen display screens, office computers, POS wireless access points, host stations and digital menu boards. |

Telecommunications area |
The Telecommunications area (telecom area) is the point where your phone lines, internet connection and POS data lines will converge. This area is typically in the office, a wiring closet or an electrical room. Your General Contractor or owners should know where this point is. If you currently do not have a telecommunications area, contact your Project Manager for advice. |

Network Patch Panel |
A piece of network wiring equipment in the Telecommunications area where your network lines are physically terminated into a unified point. |
|

POS Router |
The Network device that securely connects your FOCUS POS system to the internet. A POS Router is typically provided by FOCUS as part of your implementation. A reliable POS router is required for your FOCUS system to function. |

Dedicated power outlets |
Dedicated power outlets are outlets that are dedicated to sensitive electronic equipment. Equipment with motors or compressors (i.e. coolers and pumps) cannot share these circuits. Your POS system will be damaged if connected to a power outlets that is shared with a motor or compressor. |

POS Terminal/Workstation |
The point of sale machine where employees ring orders, payout (tender) checks and clock in/out. These are specially built computers designed for restaurant point of sale. |
|
Receipt printer |
A printer that prints receipts that are provided to guests, credit card vouchers for guests to add a tip and sign and print end of shift checkout reports. |
|
Prep printer |
Printers used to print orders to the kitchen, bar or expediter. These printers typically use ribbons and print in black & red on white or white/yellow paper. |
|
Access Point (AP) |
A device that provides wifi/wireless access to a network/internet. The POS requires dedicated and segregated wifi access and must be on the same network as the other POS devices. |
