How To Create ConnectWise / ScreenConnect Locations

This Knowledge Based Article will explain how to create Locations (machines) ConnectWise Screen Connect Remote Support Software platform.

How To Create Locations (Machines)

1. Login to the ConnectWise Focus Admin Portal

2. Use the MenuBar on the Left Hand Side of the Screen and Select -> Access

3. From the Access Tab Click on the Build + Button to Add a New Location (Machine)

4. From the Build Installer Pop-Up Window Click on Download (make Sure the correct OS is selected Windows). Once the file has completed Downloading click Done

• This will create an install file on your local machine. This file is about 5-6Mb ScreenConnect.ClientSetup.exe (It is suggested that you Rename the Install File to Correspond to the Station being Added / See Below Image for Examples)

Things to Note: You will need a separate install file for each machine being added to ConnectWise. This Step Will need to Be Repeated for each Machine. 

5. Copy the Install File over to the Desktop of the Station you are adding to ConnectWise. 

After Copying the File over Install the ScreenConnect Client locally on the Station. This is a 1 min process if that. 

After the Installation is completed you will see the ConnectWise/ScreenConnect Icon in the bottom right corner of the Station next to the Time/Date. 

6. Once ScreenConnect is installed on the Station locally, return back to ConnectWise Admin Portal. Under All Machines by Company in the Access Tab, you will see a new machine by default this will be called "Empty" 

7. Select the new Machine (empty), right-click and select "Edit"

7. From the Edit Sessions pop-up you can assign a Name (See Naming Format Below) and Company to the Machine. Please make sure to adhere to the following Naming format when assigning Names to Machines. 

Name: Select Use Specific Value from the Dropdown

Name (Station) Use Specific Value: Set the Station Name here using the below Naming Format.

• • Company Name - Location (if there is one) - Machine name - Machine location
    • Example: Companies with Multiple Locations
      • Green Cheek - Orange - Backup - Bar Right
      • Green Cheek - Costa Mesa - Backup - Bar Left
    • Example: Single Location
      • Agoura's Deli - POS3 - Back Left
      • Agoura's Deli - POS3 - Wall

You Can Confirm the Station Name by checking the station itself when on the Focus Login Screen

Company Name: Use the Dropdown to assign an already existing company. To create a new Company type your Company Name and hit Save Sessions.

8. When Creating Stations please denote the Station with the Active Key by using the "*" after the Machine Name in the Station Name

• Example: Companies with Multiple Locations
  • Green Cheek - Costa Mesa- Focus* - Bar Center
  • Green Cheek - Costa Mesa - Backup - Bar Left
  • Green Cheek - Costa Mesa - Backup - Bar Right
• Example: Single Location
  • Agoura's Deli - Focus* - BOH - Netpay
  • Agoura's Deli - POS3 - Back Left
  • Agoura's Deli - POS3 - Wall
