A known issue with IBM SurePOS 500 workstations is that the Interface I/O Card can become disassociated with the motherboard. This leads to certain interfaces not working properly. Most specifically, the network interface will cease to work.
To remedy this, you must reseat the daughter card (also referred to as the tailgate).
-
Power off the station.
-
Turn the station around, using the release lever on the top portion on the back of the station to remove the back cover and un-plug the power.
-
Once that first cover is removed there will be a solid cover with a blueish release lever located in the same area. Press the release to remove the top portion of the secondary cover.
-
Now, on the top right hand corner there is a white plastic hand screw. Un-screw it to loosen the Hard Drive. DO NOT FULLY REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE!
-
While holding the hard drive in one hand, use the other to firmly but gently pull the entire back cover off. This cover doesn't have to be removed all the way, just enough to disconnect the ports.
-
Firmly push the cover back in place, screw the hard drive back in and replace all covers and plug the power cord back in.
-
Power up the station as per usual.
