The IDTech Augusta Reader will work great with Focus, but the device must be configured for KB Mode and specific settings must be enabled to support QuickChip for EMV.
It is recommended that devices be configured before equipment installation using an office computer or other centralized computer, rather than installing VivoConfig on each POS workstation.
- Start by installing the VivoConfig application
- There are two options for configuring your devices.
- First, you can use a pre-built Augusta JSON file containing all of the necessary settings
- We have built an Augusta Config JSON file that does exactly what we need to do.
- Alternatively, you can set up the Augusta manually by following the instructions on IDTech's website:
- How Do I Enable/Disable Quick Chip for KeyBoard Emulation (QCKB) on the Augusta?
- Note - the version of VivoConfig shown in the IDTech screenshots differs from the current version. The options are not in the same places.

Using the Augusta-EMV.JSON file to configure the reader:
- Install VivoConfig and launch the application
- The reader should be identified. Depending on where you obtained the reader from, it may already be in KB mode.
- This does not mean it is set up to work properly with QuickChip!
- This does not mean it is set up to work properly with QuickChip!
- Locate the area to load a configuration file on the right side of VivoConfig
- Click Open Config from File and select the Augusta-EMV.JSON file you downloaded.
- After the file is read in, click Write To Device
- The device will be written to. During this process, the device will switch from KB Mode (if currently in KB Mode) to HID Mode to be written to. The device WILL switch to KB Mode upon completion.
- VivoConfig will confirm in the output box that the process is complete and the reader is in KB Mode.
- You can close VivoConfig.
- Open Notepad and insert an EMV Chipcard to test the reader.
- You should see a long string of stuff appear in Notepad. That indicates that the reader has QuickChip + KB EMV enabled. You're good to go.
- You can proceed to test in Focus.
