PROBLEM
When attempting to edit a credit card tip, the employee is presented with a NOT COMPLETED 201 error and the tip is not edited at the processor-level.
BACKGROUND
TSYS, a backend credit card processor and EMV processing option for FOCUS, integrates to FOCUS & NETePay via a Host Capture methodology.
As a result, TSYS maintains the entire batch, it's corresponding records and controls the time of the settlement.
Since TSYS controls the batch, it must receive all Edit Tip requests (via the AdjustByRecordNo command) prior to the batch being settled. Batch is settled based upon a configured time that occurs at a minimum of once per day, but can occur more frequently.
Only the ISO or Processor have the ability to alter the batch time. FOCUS has no control over the batch settlement time, and FOCUS' Auto-Batch function does not work with EMV.
CAUSE
If the Processor (host) settles a credit card batch before all tips have been edited, any attempt to edit a tip run on a credit card PRIOR to the batch settlement will receive a NOT COMPLETED 201 response if an employee attempts to edit a tip.
This error will be shown to both the Employee via the Edit Tips screen, as well as appear in the Datacap Log file:
<RStream> <CmdResponse> <ResponseOrigin>Processor</ResponseOrigin> <DSIXReturnCode>000000</DSIXReturnCode> <CmdStatus>Declined</CmdStatus> <TextResponse>NOT COMPLETED 201</TextResponse> <UserTraceData>Cubby</UserTraceData> </CmdResponse>
SOLUTION
At this time, there is no option to reopen a credit card batch via FOCUS and therefore no way to edit the credit card tip in question. Certain credit card processing services (ISO's) may offer a web-portal that will allow management/ownership to log in and manually perform a credit card tip or value adjustment, but that is subject to each individual processor.
A long term solution to mitigate this issue is to make sure that the credit card processor has the batch settlement time set for several hours after the business closes.
- Restaurants open until 10PM or 11PM,
- Suggested Batch Settlement time is 3AM.
- Bars open until 2AM
- Suggested Batch Settlement time is 4AM
