The 11004 Valid Name error is due to an interruption in the internet connection at the store-level.
This is typically caused by a momentary outage or area-wide outage.
The full error message states [11004] Valid name, no data record (check DNS setup)
If this message is encountered, it is suggested that the system be placed in OFFLINE mode. In OFFLINE mode, credit card transactions are spooled and held until the system is taken out of OFFLINE mode. Therefore, authorizations are not attempted.
Placing credit card OFFLINE and checking internet status
- Log in to FOCUS POS as a manager
- Navigate to your FUNCTIONS page
- Locate the OFFLINE button (4th column)
- Press the OFFLINE button
- Press the OFFLINE button
- You will be prompted to take the credit cards OFFLINE
- Press YES
- You will be notified that credit cards will go into OFFLINE mode
- Press OK
- Now check your internet connection
- From the FOCUS Log In Screen
- Touch the time in the top right corner
- Select the Internet tab
- Press PING in the lower right
- If the response is SUCCESSFUL then your internet connection is intact, you can try taking your system out of OFFLINE mode. Go to Step 7
- If the response is UNSUCCESSFUL, then your internet connection is still down. [STOP] Go to Step 27
- Log in to FOCUS POS as a manager
- Navigate to your FUNCTIONS page
- Locate the OFFLINE button (4th column)
- Press the OFFLINE button
- Press the ONLINE button
- You will be prompted to take the credit cards ONLINE
- Press YES
- You will be notified that credit cards will go into Offline Testing Mode
- Press OK
- All offline credit cards will now be processed. If transactions stop processing, contact the Focus Helpdesk
- If the internet connection is still down (Internet test replied UNSUCCESSFUL)
- DO NOT contact the Focus Helpdesk. The Focus Helpdesk cannot assist with internet connection failures. YOU MUST contact your internet service provider and inform them of the problem. They will provide you with the next steps.
- Contacting the Focus Helpdesk for internet service related issues may result in billable charges to your restaurant.
